Duncan Fitzsimmons, a keen mountain biker, came up with the idea of a foldable road bike wheel.  The idea came when he tried to find a decent folder after moving to
London.   “The aim is to try to get a really high end city bike or courier bike that can fold up into a package like a golf bag, which could go into an overhead rack on a train or go into a plane locker.”  What do you think about this?  We like it — we just hope it locks.  This gives new meaning to the word “taco-ed tire.”

Design First

February 25, 2007

Why do some ads work and some ads don’t? Why does a message reach you? It’s not just because of the copy people! First, it takes good design and secondarily it’s the copy. Together, working in harmony, now that is what makes something meaningful. Having only good content on a site is like playing the piano with boxing gloves. The pounding hurts! Granted, some might call it music, but anyone can do that. The site must draw you in and the content must play the chords to compliment the design. Yes, I am a self proclaimed designer, aren’t we all? However, I have a tremendous appreciation for good design. Read on.

I was at WebMasterWorld in Las Vegas last December and a guy (yeah, I didn’t even jot down his name, that’s how credible his comments were) said that web design is secondary to the content. I would say I wholeheartedly disagree! I will read the content if the design is there first. When is the last time you went to a site, and with out reading anything, took one look at the site and tried to keep the yak in your stomach! I dedicate this blog to the best and the worst of design – both web and otherwise.
